Community Mental Health & Psychosocial Support
In this community, like many others, has been impacted by various stressors, including the economic hardships, social inequalities, GBV, HIV, Alcohol & Drug Abuse etc. These factors have contributed to in creased mental health/psychosocial related issues such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. FHMI in partnership with other similar organizations we have been able to support the community with affordable, professional mental health interventions. Our treatment modalities include; individual, family, and group psychotherapy, psychosocial support approaches within the communities where we engage families, schools and places of worship
Because of limited Mental Health Services & Social stigma associated with mental health issues deters many from clients seeking help in the office, we therefore dedicate our work to reaching out to the clients within their families & communities through the VHTs, PSW, CDOs and other local authorities
FHMI engages with schools at community level to create awareness & promote healthy social, emotional & behavioral development of children and Youth in school, breaking down the barrier to learning and school retention.
Community Rehabilitation and Skills Development
Our community also struggles with high levels of
unemployment, limited economic opportunities, teenage pregnancy. Many youth lack the necessary skills and resources to improve their livelihoods. Addressing these challenges requires a
comprehensive approach that includes skill-building initiatives and community rehabilitation to
empower individuals and enhance their socio- economic well-being.
In May 2023, FHMI launched its Mothers Crafting their Future’ project, which offers young mothers from across Fort portal and Kabarole district the opportunity to produce hand-crafted clothes, accessories and craft items to secure their economic future
Behaviour Change Communication
FHMI actively engage in behavior change communication initiatives to challenge stigma, raise awareness, and promote positive mental health practices.
We educate the masses about mental
health and behavioral health needs through workshops organized by FHMI or any other partner.
FHMI has an active Facebook, Twitter, Instagram page and has since her inception conducted weekly media interface on Radio Jubilee FM in Fort Portal – Uganda since December 2021, every Sunday from 9:00am – 10:00am. This program has been supported by Radio Jubilee FM.
Youth Empowerment and SRHR
In the region, youth face challenges related to limited access to accurate information and services regarding
sexual and reproductive health. Cultural norms, stigma, and inadequate SRHR education contribute to a lack of
awareness and prevention strategies among young
people. This puts them at risk of unintended
pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, and
gender – based violence
🌿 School Holiday Programs
Brings together children & Youth (8-25 years old) to share experiences, learn from each other and attend group psychotherapy in order to promote social behavioral change and reach their full potential. It’s a weekly program that runs every Saturday at our offices during holidays and each episode ends with a family day connect where each child spends time with his/her family playing & having fun.
This is an annual residential program that runs for five day, its aim is to empower young boys to become gentlemen and be able to protect our young girls.
The Working Mind Program – Team Building Activities
Fort Healthy Mind Initiatives conducts a comprehensive mental and behavioral screening programs for different beneficiary groups. This initiative targets to assess various facets of individual’s neurocognitive, behavioral, social, and emotional well-being. The primary objective is to provide tailored recommendations for interventions, with a focus on leveraging their unique strengths and abilities.
