Community Outreach

Over the period FHMI has worked with Volunteers across countries
who have graced the services with knowledge and experience
that has kept the organisation viable to the communities in the
districts of western Uganda, while centered in Kabarole District.
Reaching out to the community through rough roads and hash weather takes dedication and passion to support the community to be aware of mental health.
FHMI takes the initiative to reach out to villages to conduct groups support psychotherapy and family therapy.
In this approach, the community is empowered to fight stigma that surrounds mental health and developed practical coping strategies.
With our team on ground, communities feel supported to change beliefs and attitudes related to culture and religion, which for long has curtailed seeking for support
According to statistics, 24% of the adult population in Uganda is struggling with mental health problems. Many people in villages do not know mental health related illnesses, and they attach them to witchcraft or bad omen.
Many of the cases are not included in the national databases because they do not reach hospitals and health centers.
FHMI has increased its community based outreaches to the hard to reach villages where roads are nearly to impassable, but the need for mental health interventions is alarming.
We are open to receiving volunteers and students on university placements who can come and add value to this invaluable service in our vulnerable communities
